Do you have experience of professional archive cataloguing? Would you like to work in one of the world's most famous museum groups, based in Wroughton (near Swindon)? The Science Museum's archives are a world-class resource for the study of the history of science, technology and medicine and include collections relating to genetically-modified (GM) crops and food. We wish to maximise their potential to inform, inspire and engage our audiences. Currently there is very basic information in our archives catalogue, but nearly all this material is undocumented and therefore inaccessible.
The Museum has been awarded funding from the Wellcome Research Resources Award for the project "Unlocking the Science Museum's GM Archives: revealing the evidence, informing the debate". As Project Archivist you will create a coherent, cross-referenced catalogue, manage the digitisation of analogue media and preserve the collections. You will engage our audiences through electronic and social media.
You will bring knowledge and experience of professional archive cataloguing. We also want to see experience of working with collection management systems such as Adlib or iBase.
You will be offered excellent benefits, including 25 days' holiday pro-rata in addition to bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme, BUPA medical and dental care and numerous staff discounts whilst developing your career in a world class museum group.
This role will be offered on a six-month fixed-term contract.
Interviews: 19th or 20th March.
