Do you have experience leading teams to plan and deliver high-quality, engaging and accessible community events? Do you want to inspire futures by engaging with local community groups and working collaboratively with businesses and colleagues?
About us
At the Science Museum Group STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) engagement is at the heart of what we do. We use the concept of science capital to shape our work and provide us with research-based insight into what influences and shapes people’s engagement with, and attitudes towards, science. We inform, inspire and encourage learning on-site, as well as through outreach and online. We ignite curiosity around STEM by assisting discovery through active participation and social interaction.
We are now recruiting for a Community Partnerships and Events Manager to join the Learning team at the National Railway Museum in York, on a full-time, permanent contract.
About the role
As Community Partnerships & Events Manager, you will engage with local communities new to the museum, with the long-term aim of supporting people to become confident, independent museum visitors in the future. Through the events and programmes you create for and with them, you will develop STEM experiences which are inspired by our world class collection and based on our extensive learning and audience research.
Leading a small team of staff, supported by volunteers, you will engage with local community organisations and businesses and collaborate with colleagues and other departments across the National Railway Museum and SMG to plan, produce and deliver high quality, accessible and equitable events and programmes including outreach activities, community events and festivals.
You don’t need to be an expert in STEM or have a STEM background to be the right person for this role. Our Learning team is motivated by igniting curiosity and engaging with diverse audiences and for this role we are looking for someone who is able to build relationships and work collaboratively with communities, businesses and organisations.
About you
Joining us you will have experience of working collaboratively and consultatively with local communities, organisations and businesses. You will have excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to represent the needs of the organisation whilst also advocating for diverse local interests. You will have previously worked with communities to create and evaluate high quality events and community partnership programmes.
Crucially, you will have the necessary skills to run events successfully, you will be organised and a good problem solver with the ability to show initiative and sound judgement under pressure. You will have experience of successfully managing budgets for events and multiple projects and/or programmes.
