Do you have experience of planning, researching and delivering engaging and accessible learning content? Do you want to help us engage our audiences with STEM experiences which are inspired by our world class collection?
About Us
At the Science Museum Group STEM engagement is at the heart of what we do. We inform, inspire and encourage learning on-site, as well as through outreach and online. We ignite curiosity around STEM by assisting discovery through active participation and social interaction. We use the concept of science capital to shape our work and provide us with research-based insight into what influences and shapes people’s engagement with, and attitudes towards, science.
We are now recruiting for a Learning Producer to join our Learning Team based at the Science Museum in London on a permanent contract, working 36 hours per week.
About the role
As a Learning Producer there is an option to work in a range of different areas: Schools & Families, Community Partnerships and large-scale Events for children and adults. You will be a key part of delivering our new ten-year Learning Strategy, producing programmes and events that engage our audiences with STEM experiences which are inspired by our world class collection and are based on our extensive learning and audience research.
You will support the management team to create the museum’s offer for these audiences, which will include programmes in galleries and exhibitions, outreach in schools and community venues outside of the Museum and income generated experiences and events. You will be responsible for a team of around 8 Senior Explainers and Explainers, who deliver the programme, and work in a group of other Learning Producers to support and enable the day-to-day operational running of the wider team.
On a typical day, you’ll be planning programmes to wow our audiences, overseeing the operation of our unique interactive galleries (including Wonderlab), helping to manage and train our fantastic team and contributing to discussions on upcoming museum-wide projects. Our key deliverable is fun, high-quality and accessible learning experiences and events for our visitors.
About you
Joining us you will have experience of planning, researching and delivering high quality, engaging and accessible learning content for a range of audiences. As a result of this experience, you will also have an excellent understanding of the needs of audiences, their diversity and potential additional requirements.
You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience of translating complex information into simple, compelling content. Crucially you will be good at problem-solving and have a creative, collaborative and flexible approach to working. These skills, alongside your experience of working on events and supervising and supporting staff/volunteers, will enable you to contribute to the exciting programmes and events that we run and the overall day-to-day operational running of the team.
