Do you have experience of conducting doctoral research and liaising with and/or managing students? Do you want to be responsible for running our doctoral programme, convening the Science Museum’s Masters provision and developing our research skills training?
About us
The Science Museum Group Research and Public History team is made up of researchers from a range of academic disciplines. They engage with the specific practices of the museum as well as more theoretical work on the themes of historical and contemporary science, technology and medicine.
The Research and Public History Department supports grant applications led by the Science Museum and partner universities as well as a growing programme of conferences, workshops and other events. We are now recruiting for a Research Manager (Postgraduate and Skills) to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis.
About the role
As the Research Manager (Postgraduate & Skills) you will be responsible for running the Science Museum Group’s doctoral programme, convening the Science Museum’s Masters provision and developing our research skills training programme. You will support the Head of Research & Public History in the delivery of the SMG Research Strategy and support the dissemination of research projects and priorities across SMG.
You will manage the AHRC-funded SMAC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership, working with our Consortium partners in the annual cycle of agreeing priority research areas, advertising, and enabling university-heritage partner submissions, the two-stage submission process, the final panel, student recruitment and necessary supporting administration.
You will also act as first point of contact and internal champion of our cohort of enrolled students in addition to convening MSc teaching for the optional course in ‘Curating Science and Technology’ and be the main point of contact with University College London (UCL) over the option.
About you
You will have experience of conducting doctoral research in addition to experience liaising with and ideally managing students. You will understand PhD funding and have knowledge of the process of making bids for cyclical funding.
Crucially you will possess experience of teaching and developing curriculum at Masters level and experience delivering conferences, seminars and other academic events. You will be able to work collaboratively with an extended network of colleagues and researchers alongside the capability to think and act strategically and innovatively.
