Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures and our Collection Services department underpin the care and management of our unique objects. Within Collection Services, the Photography team provide a professional, technical, and creative service making digital content for a diverse range of clients and stakeholders within SMG.
We are now looking for a Photographer to join us and establish a professional photography studio and service at the National Science & Media Museum in Bradford. This role is a fixed-term contract for 12 months, working 35 hours per week.
Working in the photographic studio, on gallery locations and offsite, you will create enhanced photography of collection objects, copy 2D material from the museum’s archives and create on-brand communications photography for external affairs. You will carry out post-production and apply metadata making images accessible through our Digital Asset Management System (DAMS) for all users.
You will work seamlessly with the Picture Library team (SSPL) to service commercial and non-commercial requests for internal and external clients. Produce communications and events photography, closely following briefs for on-brand photography. Due to the nature of the objects you will be working with, you will collaborate with conservation, registration, and curatorial teams to uphold collections care procedures, and foster excellent workflows within the collections services department.
Joining us you will have experience of photographing 2D and 3D objects alongside experience of using Capture One, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge. You will have the required planning, organisation and coordinating skills to deliver photography requests on time. You will also possess a proactive, problem-solving approach, with the ability to use your initiative and self-motivation to solve issues and make technical judgements, knowing when to escalate issues to the Group Photography Manager.
Crucially you will need to be able to work well with others, you will have good stakeholder management skills and coupled with the ability to communicate technical challenges to clients, using your influencing and negotiation skills to ensure successful shoots.
