Research Fellow, Medicine Galleries
Job description
We are delighted to present opportunities for talented individuals to contribute to the development of our forthcoming
Medicine Galleries
via original research.
The Science Museum is developing major new Medicine Galleries to showcase thousands of objects from our medicine collections for the next generation. Thanks to the initial financial support
from the
Wellcome Trust
, the
Heritage Lottery Fund
, and the
Wolfson Foundation
, these five new galleries will open in 2019, transforming much of the first floor of the Museum and putting the history of medicine and biomedical research at the heart of the Science Museum.
As part of this project we are committed to encouraging greater academic engagement with the process of gallery development and object based research in all fields. We invite applications for Fellowships at any career stage lasting between one term and one year. Enquiries are welcome at any time and applications will be processed in Spring, Autumn, and Winter.
We would like to encourage candidates from a broad range of fields, from the humanities, to the social sciences, to medicine. For further information about the Museum's collections please see
here.
You may propose your own project which must contribute to the general areas of research associated with the medicine galleries project.
You may also apply to work on a range of specified projects. Please view the vacancy information pack in our vacancy listing for a list of the general areas of research as well as these specific projects.
You will pursue your own research and participate fully in the life of the museum, such as advising curators; organising events; contributing to lectures, seminars, gallery tours, or Lates; and contributing to the medicine galleries project.
We welcome applications from candidates at any career stage. You will, at least, have been examined for a PhD in a relevant field (or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of academic attainment) by the intended starting date of your Fellowship; you will have a track record of publications commensurate with your career stage; and you will have a willingness to work with curators to contribute to the galleries project.
