Collections Project Officer
Job description
Do you have knowledge of documenting and cataloguing collections? Do you have excellent attention to detail and a desire to maintain high standards?
We are looking for 3 enthusiastic Collections Project Officers (NCC Moves) to document, prepare, pack and transport our diverse collections in the National Collections Centre. You will be involved in five
key areas of the project including documentation (inventory and digitisation), hazard surveying, preventive conservation cleaning, packing and transport of the large objects to the newly built store, Building ONE.
You will follow a rapid inventory workflow that will account for every object in our collections and ensure there is a core database record on the collections database. You will be using barcode scanning technology and one of the world's leading museum collections management software to track and catalogue a very diverse collection. You will also provide images of objects from the museum's collections based at NCC. You will receive training to identify and record hazardous materials in the collection and use your enthusiasm and knowledge to ensure that data is put onto the collections management system, and that objects are labelled appropriately. You will also arrange or undertake, remediation and management of hazards.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work as part of a fast-paced team gaining practical experience working with one of the world's greatest science, technology and medicine collections. You will be crucial in making the collections stored at the National Collections Centre available digitally through the Collections Online portal.
