Do you have experience of working with stored object collections? Can you lead and inspire others?
One Collection is the Science Museum Group’s major strategic initiative to re-imagine how our world-leading collection of objects relating to science, technology, transport, medicine, and the media is cared for, accessed, and shared. Through relocating circa 320,000 objects from Blythe House in West London to the National Collections Centre in Wiltshire, and improving access to the collection physically, remotely, and digitally, One Collection will ensure we continue to inspire futures for generations to come.
We are now looking for a Curator Team Leader to join us at Blythe House on a fixed-term contract for 13 months. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership to the One Collection curatorial team, co-ordinating the work of the Science Museum curators feeding into the Blythe House decant, and providing on-the-ground support to other One Collection teams. You will help to resolve historic documentation issues across the Science Museum’s world class collections, and support your team in doing the same. You will liaise with management and stakeholders across the Science Museum Group, advocating for the curatorial team and their work on this and other projects.
Joining us, you’ll have solid experience of working as a Curator with stored object collections. You’ll have exceptional organisational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with an ability to lead and motivate a team. Technically, you’ll have a strong understanding of collections care and will have experience of handling fragile and hazardous objects.
You will be offered excellent benefits, including 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme, BUPA medical and dental care, an annual season ticket loan and numerous staff discounts whilst developing your career in a world class museum group.
