One of the strategic ambitions of the Science Museum Group (SMG) is to increase income. The Cultural and Commercial Partnerships team is critical in realising this aim as part of the Group’s commercial Enterprises department. The team’s overarching purpose is to increase financial income and to raise SMG’s profile nationally and internationally, commercially leveraging our brand, content, and skills. As a department, we are creative, proactive and thrive to create financial growth that is resilient, sustainable and supports SMG’s powerful social mission.
To support us in this work we are now looking for a Project Editor on a permanent basis for 21 hours pw, based at the Science Museum. In this role, you will manage content delivery for gallery and exhibition books and catalogues, ensuring that they are produced within budget, on time and to an excellent standard of quality, whilst providing expert editorial support and guidance. You will also have an input in the development of trade focused, popular adult and children’s titles. You will be responsible for leading, developing and managing the editorial process for individual Science Museum Group publications, seeing books through from idea conception to publication.
Joining us, you will have a strong editorial background in a comparable role, with a solid understanding and practical experience of the editorial and book production processes. You will have strong copyediting and proofreading skills, along with good attention to detail. You will be able to communicate and build relationships effectively; you’ll be working with colleagues across the Group, along with publishers and freelancers, so collaborative working will come naturally to you.
