Do you have experience leading on public realm projects? Do you have a collaborative and engaging approach?
The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures. As part of this world leading collective, the National Railway Museum in York has an exciting strategic masterplan, Vision 2025, which is a total reimagination of the museum. Over the next few years, every part of the museum and visitor journey will change.
We are now seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of two linked projects within the overall programme which contribute significantly to the transformation of the visitor experience at the National Railway Museum and its sister museum, Locomotion in Shildon.
The South Yard project will create new outdoor space which will provide visitors with a range of leisure and family spaces and activities, along with facilities to support the maintenance of the operating rail vehicles. At Locomotion, the vision is to create a new building to house the rail vehicles collection in a sustainable and accessible way.
The Project Director will be responsible for leading and delivering these projects, taking the existing feasibility studies through to design, procurement and construction. You will work with colleagues to build and lead the internal teams and appoint the appropriate external consultants. You will maintain a complete overview and accountability for all aspects of the projects. You'll work collaboratively to ensure full integration and alignment with the vision, teams, stakeholders and the existing estate.
Joining us, you'll have experience of Public Realm projects and new build (including design and build contracts) ideally within a heritage context and with a good understanding of working within the context of a national museum. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at the National Railway Museum and to make an immediate impact in the progression and delivery of these cornerstone projects.
You will be offered excellent benefits, including 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme, BUPA medical and dental care, an annual season ticket loan and numerous staff discounts whilst developing your career in a world class museum group.
