Are you an experienced engineer or technician? Are you keen to work in a world-class Museum?
The Science Museum in London is now looking for a Lead Engineering Technician to join our Gallery Services team, on a permanent basis. The Gallery Services department provides workshop and technical services across the Science Museum by maintaining exhibits and helping to build new gallery exhibitions. This skilled technical team supports the Science Museum in delivering an ambitious programme of activities and a high-quality visitor experience.
As a Lead Engineering Technician, you will perform the operational duties of a technician, alongside taking a lead on key project work. You’ll represent the team at key project meetings and ensure new galleries and exhibits are designed with ongoing maintenance in mind. You’ll be involved in conducting safety checks, ensuring the galleries are ready for visitors. You will diagnose and repair exhibits, working with contractors and suppliers where required. You’ll also deputise for the Engineering Manager where required, and will support the team with organising and running training for new team members, as well as taking a lead on supporting new apprentices.
Joining us, you’ll have sound knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety, particularly in relation to workshop hazards. You’ll have training in, or equivalent experience of, electro-mechanical maintenance or engineering. You will be a self-starter, able to work to projects plans and prioritise workloads. As our Lead Engineering Technician, you’ll be a strong communicator; able to work closely with multiple different stakeholders; sharing knowledge, advice and best practice.
You will be offered excellent benefits, including 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme, BUPA medical and dental care, an annual season ticket loan and numerous staff discounts whilst developing your career in a world class museum group.
