Do you have experience of developing museum collections and communicating their stories in compelling ways? Are you an engaging and inspiring leader?
The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures. As the world’s leading group of science museums, we share our unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over five million visitors each year.
As part of this world-leading collective, the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester has an exciting vision to be an internationally recognised museum with a strong Manchester personality. In the coming years, the Museum will undergo significant transformation including the opening in 2020 of a new gallery for special exhibitions, the reinterpretation of our much-loved Power Hall and the development of major narrative galleries that tell the story of science and innovation in Manchester.
As Head Curator, you’ll play a key role in the development of the Museum. You’ll lead the curatorial and archives team to shape the museum’s narrative through exhibitions, galleries and public programmes. As well as developing our historic collections, you’ll champion our ambitions to research and collect more contemporary materials, working with key academic and industrial partners, particularly in areas such as the digital and creative industries, advanced materials, energy and other areas significant to science and industry in Manchester.
Joining us, you’ll have substantial experience of developing collections and communicating them in innovative and compelling ways. You’ll be an inspiring people manager, with an ability to share your passion and enthuse colleagues, partners and stakeholders, and be prepared to drive change where needed. You’ll bring experience of delivering major projects, combining appropriate attention to detail with an ability to hold the vision.
You will be offered excellent benefits including 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, the ability to join our pension scheme, BUPA medical and dental healthcare and an interest free loan offer whilst developing your career in a world class museum group.
