Background
Our team has responsibility will be for technical functionality of the Museum Gallery Displays and Exhibits, ensuring they are safe and maintained to a constantly high standard so that they can achieve their purpose in educating and informing. You'll be responsible for the maintenance, repair and upgrade of electronics, computers and audio-visual hardware as used in a variety of bespoke interactive displays. As a member of the wider gallery team, you'll participate in many other activities.
You will have a City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent qualification or have with a proven track record and demonstrable experience, in a relevant discipline.
You'll be expected to work in the Museum Workshops, on the public galleries as well as gallery build/strip out sites. There will also be an opportunity to demonstrate our working objects, such as steam engines (Burnley Mill Engine) and mechanical loom.
You must bring a background in IT systems, computer hardware/software repair and fault finding, or electronics. We are also looking for knowledge of PC, Mac and Linux based operating systems, PC building, hardware fault finding and repair, software installation and configuration. Component level repairability would be a bonus.
A good knowledge of health and safety as relevant to the role, including COSHH and risk assessments, is also required. Candidates offering CAD skills would be at an advantage.
Shift & Rota Requirements
This post is full-time at 36 hours per week. We're an operational team supporting a Museum opening 362 days per year, so this includes working one weekend in three and a share of the bank holidays. The role is on a shift basis with the earliest start at 0730 and latest finish 1915. The rota is worked out across the year and staff can swap shifts according to personal requirements and preferences.
