Tracing its origins and birth of its collection from the Great Exhibition in 1851 the museum aims to make sense of the science that shapes our lives and inspire visitors through iconic objects, award-winning exhibitions, and incredible stories of scientific achievement.
In this newly created position you will be responsible for leading the Science Museum curatorial teams, working with internationally renowned curatorial specialists, bringing our scientific stories to life. As Deputy Director (Science Museum) you will ensure our collecting policies reflect our ambitions and that curators are at the heart of exhibition developments and manage the collections within our financial constraints. You will also oversee future research projects that enable the museum to tell the stories that help people interpret science.
All Science Museum exhibitions and public programmes are created to ensure we fulfil our mission to help people make sense of the science that shapes our lives and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. You will be responsible for overseeing the quality of the content, the interpretation and how that is articulated into an exhibition or event. You will be a key representative of the Science Museum with peer institutions, learned societies, Government and project advisory boards, and also a key media spokesperson.
You will have academic knowledge and understanding of a science discipline, demonstrating credibility within the science community. You will have significant experience of operational delivery including programme management and resource management. As well as a passionate commitment to excellent visitor-led service delivery, you will have the ability to lead your teams to deliver a clear vision.
