We are recruiting for a Conservator to join the One Collection NCC Moves team. In this role you will assist with the audit and preparation of objects to move into our new storage facility – the National Collection Centre in Wroughton, Swindon.
Working with established Science Museum Group Conservation and Collections Care processes and standards, The Conservator (NCC Moves) will be involved in all aspects of surveying the collection for condition, identifying objects that need intervention and undertaking the necessary work to enable them to be moved safely, ensuring data is meticulously recorded.
In this role you’ll use your ability to work well independently and under pressure to plan and execute your own work programmes of conservation of inventoried objects in the Science Museum Group collections. Your ability to meet deadlines calmly and effectively will also ensure your work is in accordance with project timelines and budget, complying with best professional practice.
Other responsibilities of the role include; developing and delivering object handling training to staff and volunteers, updating condition and conservation data in Mimsy XG database and working closely with the NCC Conservation and Collections Care team to ensure the safety of colleagues, contractors and the collection throughout the survey, remediation, packing and transport phases.
Joining us you will possess either a relevant conservation qualification or equivalent practical experience and knowledge. You will be able to use strong written and oral communication skills to work well in a positive and diverse team environment. We are looking for a good knowledge of health and safety legislation alongside IT skills which includes experience of database systems and image manipulation software.
