Can you create inspiring exhibitions and get to the heart of an idea swiftly and in an engaging way?
The National Railway Museum (NRM), as part of the Science Museum Group (SMG), exists to inspire the next generation with the past, present and future of the railways. As we embark on the biggest capital development in the history of the museum, Vision 2025, we need to create an engaging public programme of temporary and permanent projects that supports the overall transformation of the museum, to meet visitor needs in relevant and dynamic ways.
In order to support this exciting work, we are recruiting for two permanent Interpretation Developers to join the team at NRM. As Interpretation Developer, you will play an integral role in the creative development and practical coordination of our public programme. Reporting to the Exhibitions Project Manager, you will work with multiple museum stakeholders and internal and external design teams to develop content and interpretation for all manner of projects, from large-scale temporary exhibitions to smaller strategic displays. You will ensure exhibition content is appropriately tailored towards the target audience, as well as being delivered safely, robustly, and accessibly. In addition to being the creative driver, you will also be responsible for fundamental project coordination, ensuring accurate project notes and documentation, tailored communications with external designers, creative brief-writing, and meeting budgets and timescales set by the Exhibitions Project Manager.
Joining us, you will have been involved in creating inspiring exhibitions, displays or creative outputs for a range of audiences. With an imaginative approach to content and interpretive development, you will have the ability to summarise complex information and get to the heart of an idea accurately and in an engaging way. You’ll be a collaborative member of the team, with an organised approach and an eye for detail.
As an employee with SMG, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group. You’ll work in inspiring spaces within a collaborative, supportive and ‘open for all’ culture. We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we offer up to 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; BUPA medical and dental care; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; enhanced occupational sick, maternity, paternity and adoption leave; career breaks and Trade Union recognition.
SMG are an equal opportunities employer and we value and celebrate diversity. We want to make sure we represent the society in which we work but recognise that the museum sector still has much work to do in this area. We welcome and encourage all applications whatever your individual background or sector, and we particularly encourage applications from applicants from marginalised or minority groups.
