Can you build high-value strategic relationships? Are you knowledgeable on major gifts, donors and patrons programmes?
With unparalleled collections in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medicine and media, the Science Museum Group (SMG) aims to be a leader in informal learning where people of all generations can be inspired by the science that shapes the modern world.
Committed to supporting this mission, the Development team plays a key role in delivering the Group’s ambitions through effective income-generation. We are now looking for a Head of Philanthropy to drive and deliver Philanthropy income across SMG. As Head of Philanthropy, you will support the Director of Development in meeting capital and revenue fundraising income targets and identifying opportunities across income streams. You will be the expert in the Development Department in philanthropic fundraising, leading the team to manage a portfolio of fundraising products including project-based major gifts proposals, mission-led philanthropy and patrons programme.
Joining us, you will bring experience of managing high-value strategic Philanthropy relationships, with experience of securing seven-figure grants. As a senior leader, you will be a strong relationship builder, able to cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders and navigate a complex organisation with credibility, diplomacy and enthusiasm. You’ll be a strong people manager with an open and collaborative approach and the ability to influence and lead change.
The Science Museum Group is here to Inspire Futures. As the world’s leading group of science museums, we share our unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over five million visitors each year. Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group. We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we currently offer up to 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; BUPA medical and dental care; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; enhanced occupational sick, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and career breaks. This role will initially work remotely but as we all start to get back to working on site, this role will be based out of one of our museums. If not based at Science Museum, this role will require regular travel to London.
‘Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.
We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures. We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
